Nevi, commonly called moles, are very common skin lesions. Moles are found on people of all skin types, but they are most common in adults with light skin. Most of the time, they are harmless (benign), but if you find yours to be unattractive or bothersome, our board-certified plastic surgeons can help you achieve the look you will love with mole removal.
Moles and other nevi may develop anywhere on the body, and there are many different types of moles. They may be flat or raised, and either brown, tan, black or even skin-toned or colorless. Moles that are rapidly changing in size, or begin to itch, bleed, or cause pain should be examined by one of our physicians or your dermatologist.
If you choose to remove your mole, we may remove it surgically through excision, or by laser. With surgical excision, the mole is cut away under local anesthesia and the skin is then stitched together to close the wound. There is minimal pain and you can resume your normal level of activity in a few days, while protecting the surgical site.
Laser treatment of moles involves lightening the mole with a medical laser, which leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected. This non-invasive procedure also has minimal pain.
