Eyelid Surgery

What is upper eyelid surgery?

In upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Kieu removes extra skin and fat from your upper eyelids and tightens skin to eliminate drooping. Many patients choose upper eyelid surgery when their upper eyelids start to sag due to aging.

While it's a cosmetic issue, it can also be a physical one. When your upper eyelids droop significantly, it can interfere with your vision and even cause serious discomfort. Upper eyelid surgery can correct all of these issues during an outpatient procedure that Dr. Kieu performs while you're comfortably under local anesthesia.

What is lower eyelid surgery?

In lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Kieu removes extra skin and fat from below your eyes, the area often called under-eye bags. Under-eye bags are a major cosmetic concern for many patients because they can really age you, and make you look tired all the time.

As with upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure. While you're comfortably under IV sedation, Dr. Kieu removes your below-eye bags and tightens the lower eyelid area to create a newly refreshed look.

With both types of eyelid surgery, Dr. Kieu always emphasizes a natural result in which you simply look like a younger version of yourself.

Can I have both types of eyelid surgery at once?

Yes, if you're unhappy with both your upper and lower eyelids, Dr. Kieu can do both procedures at once. If you have both procedures, you'll be under IV sedation and can still go home the same day.

How long does recovery take after eyelid surgery?

For both types of eyelid surgery, the recovery is fairly smooth and easy. Most patients go back to their regular activities about three to five days after their eyelid surgery. If you wear contact lenses, you’ll need to use eyeglasses instead for at least a couple of weeks after your eyelid surgery.

Dr. Kieu will advise you about incision care and wound maintenance post-surgery. She removes any non-dissolving stitches during your post-op appointment sometime in the week after your procedure. Dr. Kieu uses very small and well-concealed incisions, which means minimal scarring. No one ever needs to know you had eyelid surgery!
