Is rhinoplasty right for me?

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, may be right for you if you're not happy with the appearance of your nose, and you're ready for a permanent and natural looking improvement.

Rhinoplasty can also help with your breathing. Dr. Kieu is double board certified in plastic surgery and ear, nose, and throat surgery, so she's uniquely qualified to improve both nose appearance and functionality. She can even do specialized procedures like septoplasty or a turbinate reduction procedure during your rhinoplasty to correct issues such as deviated septum.

Patients of any age can have rhinoplasty, as long as their nose has finished growing. For girls, this means a minimum age of 14-15, and for boys around 17-18.

What kind of problems can rhinoplasty correct?

Through rhinoplasty, Dr. Kieu can correct most cosmetic problems with your nose, including:

  • Overlarge nose
  • Large nasal tip
  • Bulbous, or pushed-in nose tip
  • Hooked or beaked nose
  • Bumps or depressions on your nasal bridge
  • Uneven, flared, or overlarge nostrils

Discuss your specific concerns with Dr. Kieu during your consultation to find out how rhinoplasty can help.

Where are the incisions in rhinoplasty?

Incision placement depends on the complexity of your rhinoplasty. In a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are in your nose.

In an open procedure, which may be needed for more complex corrections, the incisions are in the columella, the small band of tissue between your nostrils. Either way, the incisions are very well hidden, and Dr. Kieu is an expert in achieving a natural look.

What is recovery like after a nose job?

Some discomfort and swelling are normal at first following a nose job, but abate over the next couple of weeks. You may have some eye-area bruising, but it goes away within a couple of days. Most patients have minimal pain after their rhinoplasty. Dr. Kieu prescribes medication for this, but you may find over-the-counter pain relievers sufficient.

To heal as rapidly and effectively as possible, remember to keep your head elevated while resting. Cold compresses can help relieve bruising, swelling, and discomfort. Usually, Dr. Kieu uses dissolvable stitches that go away naturally. If you need external stitches, Dr. Kieu removes them during your follow-up appointment around a week after your rhinoplasty.
