The Right Doctor for You
Finding the right plastic surgeon is a personal choice, and very often you’ll know in your gut if you’ve found the right doctor. But there are other, more concrete questions to consider as well:
- Their online rating. While online reviews often don’t tell the whole story about a patient’s experience, they can give you a general idea about a doctor’s demeanor and the experience they offer. This, and speaking with friends who have undergone the same procedure you are interested in, is a good way to start your search.
- Their training. Don’t be afraid to ask about the surgical team’s training in FFS and what other medical training they have.
- Experience. How long has the doctor been performing FFS? How many surgeries have they performed? Ask to see before and after photos of previous patients.
- Their office environment. It can say a lot if the doctor’s office seems not-so-clean and not very organized.
- Their staff. It can also say a lot if the office staff seems unfriendly or unwilling to discuss your concerns with you.
- Their attitude. Is your doctor willing to answer all of your questions, or do they seem impatient and annoyed? Do they seem genuinely interested in you and what your plastic surgery goals are? Ask them to describe how the procedure will be done, the recovery time involved, and what kind of support is offered before and after the surgery.
- Their honesty. Your doctor should be willing to discuss the more unpleasant aspects of your procedure without sugar coating any of it, such as specific costs involved and what to expect during the recovery process.
